Episode #09 - March 31, 2021
Logan Burgess Vs. Dominic Salvatore
The Start: Salvatore and DeLuca to the ring first and went to cut a promo before being cut off by Burgess’ music. He quickly came to the ring, ready for a fight. Burgess pushed himself against the 7 footer.
The Match: DeLuca shouted at Burgess from the outside as this match was about to start. Burgess had his opponent scouted and immediately went for an attack of the knee. Burgess tripped up Salvatore and hammered the leg brace with punches and an elbow. Salvatore started to club Burgess and the two finally got to their feet. Burgess ran the ropes and ran into a clothesline on his return but didn’t fall. Burgess hit the ropes again and came back with a hard shoulder block that didn’t drop the big man. Salvatore looked for a chokeslam but Burgess spun away and hit Salvatore with a hard throat chop. DeLuca jumped onto the apron to distract Burgess and ate a hard right hard to the mouth. Salvatore lifted Burgess in the air as he turned and drove him to the mat with a big spinebuster. Salvatore pulled Burgess up and delivered a suplex before rolling him back up. Salvatore sent Burgess into the ropes and lifted him before dropping him with a flapjack.
The End: Burgess started to battle back in the match and hit a big leaping clothesline when sent into the ropes. Burgess started to feel the momentum and ducked a big boot and chop blocked Salvatore. This brought the big man to a knee and allowed Burgess to hit a drive by dropkick to the head! Burgess pulled Salvatore in and showed his strength and delivered the Heart Failure (Fairy Tale Ending) before rolling into a cover, picking up a win.
WINNER: Logan Burgess via pinfall @ 11:34
The Aftermath: We get a quick look at the image for Saturday’s Logan Burgess versus James Edwards before seeing Edwards backstage watching a monitor in a crowd of people before slipping away. Burgess celebrated in the ring as DeLuca paced around the ring.
Otro Ladrillo En La Pared
The camera follows Kevin Olson through a local gym as a caption on the bottom of the screen says this has been recorded, earlier today. He passes by numerous other gym patrons, lifting free weights, working machines and what have you. Kevin and the camera bring us to one woman in particular clad in black and red spandex pants and a sport’s bra. Her dark hair is tied up into a ponytail to keep out of her face as she works on the pullup bar, alternating with the bar going under her chin and over the back of her neck. Kevin Olson comes to stand right beside the woman, adjusting his tie as he clears his throat, nervously. As it stands, the woman doesn’t even need to look at him to know it’s Empire’s little interviewer.
Tia Santos: Apestas a miedo, Josh. What jou want, cabron?
Kevin Olson: Ahem. Umm...sorry for the interruption. Tia Santos, you’re obviously preparing for another defense of the Extreme Championship. This time, you’ll be facing Kayla Taylor. She’s made quite a name for herself in BWF but now she’s looking to win some Empire gold and she has her sights set on your title.
Tia drops down from the pullup bar and turns to finally face the camera. She grabs a towel off of the frame of the setup and dabs her neck and face with it, letting out a growling sigh. She switches to Spanish then and that’s when we realize the interpreter is there, behind the camera as well.
Tia Santos: Yes, exactly. My title. If Kayla Taylor desires further success in her career, she will not find it at my expense. There are several others who have seen great success in their careers. Molly O’Hatherine. Kaito Hirano. Austin Scott. Riley Rouse. Just recently, Alicia Monroe. All have seen it elsewhere. All have come here seeking to further their reputations in the business. All have sought to do so against the Saint of Killers.
She slaps her towel over one shoulder and turns from Kevin, looking into the camera directly.
Tia Santos: All. Have. Failed. I am not intimidated by your track record, Kayla Taylor. Rather, I am insulted that you think you can come over from the sister company and plant your flag here in MY Empire. Sister company or not, you have had your attention focused on Blazenwing Wrestling and left Empire in the rearview mirror. Now, you seek to make a U-turn and try to take what is not yours. I am uncertain how others may see it, nor do I really care. Kayla Taylor, I - Tia Santos, Extreme Champion of Empire - see your attempt as an invasion and a pitiful one at that.
With a pause, Tia pushes her hair out of her face and gives a sly chuckle.
Tia Santos: Quite frankly, I have considered every challenger who has stepped up to me as an invasion towards my Empire. You are simply the worst, thus far, Kayla Taylor. An opportunist, at best. Someone who has become an outsider, still trying to fit in where she is no longer wanted. I do not want you here and I will push you out myself, if I must. I have held the Extreme Championship for just a few days shy of eight months. I have gone to war to protect it just as many times. In order for you to even have a glimmer of hope in taking it from me, Kayla, you are going to need to bring something to the battlefield that I have never faced before. Unfortunately, for you and anyone else, the Saint of Killers is prepared for anything. If a war is what you seek, consider yourself accommodated, but it will not end the way you hope for. Hope, Kayla Taylor, is simply a tease designed to prevent us from accepting reality. After our meeting has concluded, all hope of yours will be gone and you?
Tia chuckles again, pulling the towel off of her shoulder.
Tia Santos: You will be nothing more than another brick in the wall...of my Empire.
The Extreme Champion flings the towel at the camera, bringing the shot to black as we shift to another scene.
Social Elite Vs. The 323
The Start: The 323, Perez and Torres, came to the ring first. The former 2-time BWF Tag Team Champions looked ready for a fight. Torres removed a bandana and wrapped it around his wrist before tying it. Page and Kash, Social Elite, the EW Tag Team Champions, came out next and posed at the top of the ramp with the titles back to back. They started to make their way down to the ring and up the stairs. As soon as they entered the ring they were attacked! The 323 didn’t waste a second before starting to land hard kicks and punches to the champions as the referee tried to get them to break. Page started to battle back with chops which allowed Kash hit a second rope crossbody on Torres but he caught her and dumped her over the top. Page rolled out of the ring to check on her partner as the referee warned the 323 that if they followed they’d be DQ’ed. They hesitated, with a Tag Team Title shot on the line.
The Match: Kash seemed okay and brushed herself off as she and Page talked on the outside. Kash got into the ring and was set to start things off with Perez. Perez quickly tried to set up and deliver Got Popped (Powerbomb Lungblower) but Kash raked the eyes of Perez and landed on her feet and she flipped backwards. She speared him into her own corner and Page tagged in. The champions quickly made tags in and out and would land kicks to Perez before jumping in and out of the ring. We ended up with Page in the ring and she tripped up Perez and Kash came running over with a leg drop to the back of his head. Page then went into a cover that only got two. Perez tried to get to his feet and Page delivered Total Knockout (Springboard Bulldog). Page made a tag to Kash who went for her Liquidation (Triangle choke armbar) but Perez was able to slip free and make a tag. Torres came in and hit Kash with a running big boot. Page jumped into the ring and ran right into the .38 Special (Gunnslinger). Torres hit the ropes and dropped Kash as she stood with the CHIMUELO (Superman Punch [Translation: Toothless])! Torres lifted Page and the 323 hit Bang, Bang (Backbreaker [Torres]/Leg Drop to Draped Opponent [Perez])! Torres covered Kash and she was able to kick out at two. Torres made a tag to Perez. Perez looked for the Rodeo Drive (Jumping DDT from Second Ropes) but Kash countered into Kash Flow (Codebreaker)!
The End: Kash and Perez were both down and needed to make tags. Kash made a tag to Page first and Torres was in next. Torres ducked a clothesline as he charged and turned quickly. He looked for a German suplex but Page flipped behind him and landed on her feet. This left him open for the Golden Rule (Reverse Neckbreaker) and she went right into Spoiled Rotten (Banks Statement)! There were mummers from the crowd as Jason Evans jumped onto the apron as he came from the crowd. The referee tried to get him off the apron as Kash came running over and speared him through the ropes and to the floor below! Torres was tapping but the referee was dealing with Evans and Kash brawling at ringside. With the referee distracted, Austin Scott was in the ring and he cracked a chair over the back of Page! Scott rolled out of the ring as Perez was in and quickly got Torres up. Perez set Page up and they hit her with the Gun Shot (Wheelbarrow by Perez into a running kick to the head by Torres, followed by a sit-down facebuster)! Torres fell on Page as Perez pulled the referee into the middle of the ring and made him count for a three!
WINNERS: The 323 via pinfall @ 17:19
The Aftermath: Kash clotheslined Evans over the barricade and turned to the ring as the 323 stood tall. She pulled Page out of the ring and helped hold her up as they snatched the Tag Team Titles. The 323 looked out at Scott checking on Evans and then over to the Social Elite.
Re-Work Hard
Kayla Taylor: When I first hit the wrestling scene I preached working hard. You can say it was my shtick.
We’ve been hearing the voice of Kayla Taylor and we can now see her as the camera shows her sitting in the Warehouse’s gym. She’s sitting up as she looks like she might lay back and down a few bench presses. She’s in a pair of leggings and a halter top, hair pulled back in a ponytail.
Kayla Taylor: I didn’t know what type of wrestler I was going to be when I first showed up to this gym for my first workout. I never imagined that I would spend most of my career as a tag team specialist because my family never really played well with others. Tonight I have the biggest match in my singles career as I take on Tia Santos. The Extreme Champion that has shown that she’s nearly unstoppable.
This makes Kayla smirk and chuckle.
Kayla Taylor: Nearly. I watched your matches with people like FM Young and Lacy Nelson over and over this week. They both took you to your limits and FM even beat you. You aren’t some scary goddess taking souls. You’re just a mortal behind that sugar skull face painting. Tonight I go out there to show the world what I know and dethrone you and tear down “your empire”. It’s time to show everyone what #WorkHard means once again. Tonight, #WorkHard will also mean #AndNew.
Kayla lays back and gets a few reps in as we fade away.
Noavrra Vs. Meg Coleman
The Start: Above the ring was a briefcase that held a contract for a Primetime Championship match that will be fought for on Hype. Noavrra came out first and looked up at the prize as Coleman was out next.
The Match: This match was made before the announcement of the ladder match on Saturday’s Hype which includes these two competitors. This match quickly fell apart as the two shouted at each other about who was going to win the match this weekend. The bell never got to ring as Jason Evans slid into the ring with a steel chair and cracked it on the back of Coleman! Noavrra and Evans started to brawl as Harper Blake rushed to the ring to join in the fray. Blake helped Noavrra fight off Evans as they clotheslined him over the top rope. Blake turned right into Coleman hitting her with a Superwoman Punch! Noavrra and Coleman started to brawl and Evans jumped into the ring and joined. Not to be outdone, Alicia Monroe appeared on the top rope and hit a diving moonsault to the three to take them all out! Monroe stood tall in the middle of the ring as we went to break.
Special Council
As we came back from the break we went backstage where Kevin Olson was standing by. After a brief nod to the camera he started to talk.
Kevin Olson: Ladies and gentlemen, joining me at this time is the EW World Champion, Lacy Nelson.
The camera pulled back just enough to show Lacy Nelson standing there with him. The title sat on her right shoulder, closest to the camera as Kevin stood to her left.
Kevin Olson: Thank you for joining me, Lacy. We learned this past week on Hype that you’ll be going one on one with Casey Grey in just two weeks on the April 10th edition of Hype. More importantly, you’ll be defending the World Championship. What are your thoughts on this upcoming match?
Lacy Nelson: It would be easy for me to stand here and dismiss Casey but that’s not the kind of person I am, Kevin. I know that Casey thinks the world doesn’t care about her or that everyone is out to get her. I know that she has some sort of delusion that Manic’s targeting of her and her crew is some scheme by me. All of that is far from the truth, Kev. I see you Casey. I see the only three time Primetime Champion. I see the mind of Hell’s Belles. I see one of the toughest competitors that’s ever stepped foot into an Empire Wrestling ring.
There’s a pause as she starts to nod and takes a glance at the title on her shoulder.
Lacy Nelson: I see someone determined to take this away from me. I see someone with backup. I see someone thirsty for blood and a desire to prove to herself that she’s better than what she thinks people see in her.
Lacy takes another moment to pat the championship before looking at Kevin Olson.
Lacy Nelson: Hype 46. July 17, 2020. Three months after I won my first World Championship. We had been hearing for weeks and weeks about Empire Wrestling was treating Casey Grey unfairly and on that night they rewarded her with a World Championship opportunity. Do you remember how the match ended, Kev? Me refusing to submit to the Bitch Muzzle, breaking free, kicking Casey in the face and retaining the championship.
She takes a deep breath as she’s worked up, thinking ahead.
Lacy Nelson: Then she attacked me after the match because she’s a lunatic. She attacked me to bring out Alicia, to bring out FM, because of some agenda that she had in her head. While things are different now between Alicia and Casey, she also has Karli and Annabelle this time around. She is dead set on taking this from me and I can’t let her do that. So, I’ve gotten myself a new coach. Someone to help me learn everything Casey can do inside that ring because I don’t want to get put in that Bitch Muzzle again. Call it my special council for this upcoming battle, Kevin. This person isn’t going to get physical, this person isn’t going to fight my battle, and they’ll even sit on the opposite side of the barricade if they must. My new coach, my special council…
The camera pans out just a little more to show the smiling face of former World Champion and Lacy Nelson’s girlfriend, FM Young! The fans pop as Young pats Nelson on the back and Lacy smiles.
Lacy Nelson: You’re just the footnote in my headline, Casey. I’ll see you on April 10th.
FM and Lacy walked off screen as Kevin Olson watches.
EXTREME CHAMPIONSHIP
Tia Santos (c) Vs. Kayla Taylor
The Start: The ring was surrounded by four trash cans with kendo sticks, small signs, and other various items. On two sides were tables already set up. Kayla Taylor came to the stage first and she wasn’t wearing her traditional gear but subbed for jeans and a tank top. She grabbed one of the trash cans and tossed it into the ring as items spilled. She rolled into the ring as the fans cheered the arrival of Tia Santos. She held up the Extreme Championship on the stage before making her way down the ramp. She jumped onto the apron and held the title in front of her as Taylor watched on. Santos tossed the title to the timekeeper and jumped into the ring as these two quickly came to blows! Santos backed Taylor into the ring with strikes and hit a chop to the chest. Taylor came right back with a forearm to the face and then pulled the champion into a DDT. Santos spun away and jumped up, taking Taylor down with a headscissors takedown. Both competitors got to their feet quickly and Santos hit a jawbreaker before hitting a discus lariat!
The Match: Santos used her speed to keep Taylor off guard for a lot of the beginning of this match. Santos would hit a series of hard chops before Taylor could start to fight back with a shot or two of her own. Santos looked for a hurricanrana but Taylor flipped her off and Santos backflipped and landed on her feet. Taylor drove her knee into the gut of Santos and then delivered a reverse DDT. Taylor grabbed a trash can lid and smacked it over the head of Santos as she stood. Taylor put the lid between the second and third turnbuckles and went to pull Santos up. Santos countered with a shot to the gut and then hit a lifting knee to the face. Santos looked over and rolled out of the ring and grabbed a chair before getting back into the ring. Santos tossed it at Taylor who caught it but Santos hit a shotgun kick to smash the chair into the face of Taylor. Santos covered but Taylor kicked out at two. Santos pulled her opponent up slowly and looked at the trash can lid. Santos tried to ram Taylor’s head into it but Taylor stopped the momentum with her foot on the middle rope and then caught Santos with a back elbow. Taylor looked for a German suplex but Santos slipped behind her. Taylor ran forward and dropped down, smashing Santos’ face right into the trash can lid! Taylor covered and Santos kicked out at two. Taylor wasted no time in pulling Santos up and scoop slamming her onto the chair. Taylor moved the trash can into the center of the ring and pulled Santos up. Santos started to fight back but Taylor hit her with a forearm to the face. Taylor hooked a leg and delivered the Merry Go Round (Spin Fisherman Suplex) onto the trash can! Taylor covered and once again only got two before Santos kicked out.
The End: Santos started to sit up but Taylor was right there with the Plan A (Shining Wizard)! The mangled trash can sat there and Taylor quickly pulled Santos up and hit Redemption (Final Cut) onto it! Taylor covered and got a big two count before Santos just kicked out in time. Taylor looked around and saw a bag and looked inside and smiled. She rolled out of the ring and moved the table slightly closer to the ring and then unloaded the contents of the bag onto it. Tacks. Hundreds of tacks now covered the table and Taylor rolled back into the ring. She grabbed Santos and pulled her up and positioned for a powerbomb but Santos countered into a hurricanrana. Taylor was up and Santos charged at the corner and ran up it before delivering Vela en la Noche ([Candle in the Night] Whisper in the Wind). Santos grabbed a kendo stick and started to unload vicious shots across the back of Taylor. Taylor tried to get to her feet and took a shot to the skull that echoed throughout the Warehouse. Taylor dropped and Santos covered and got a two before Taylor kicked out. Santos pulled Taylor near the ropes and then out of the ring. She lifted her up near the table and tossed her onto the table as Taylor let out a yelp, her back hitting the tacks. Santos grabbed a trash can lid and smacked Taylor in the face with it as she seemed to be out cold. Santos jumped to the apron and went to the top rope as the fans buzzed. Santos dove onto Taylor on the tack covered table with Muerta Caída ([Dead Drop] Torpedo Plancha)! “Holy shit” chants busted out as Santos rolled off of Taylor, pulling off a few tacks from her own body. She pulled Taylor up and rolled her into the ring and followed. Taylor tried to crawl away but was given the Beso de Muerte ([Kiss of Death] Dream DDT). Santos covered Taylor and picked up the win.
WINNER AND STILL EW EXTREME CHAMPION: Tia Santos via pinfall @ 22:31
The Aftermath: Tia Santos pulled herself up as she picked out a couple more tacks on her arm and was handed her title. She thrusted it into the air and shouted. The fans cheered as she leaned against the ropes and the referee checked on Taylor to end the show.
