Here it is; a book that I totally did not steal from Cosmo and Wanda.
Inside, you'll find anything you need to know about the workings of the UWA-BWF {henceforth referred to simply as the BWF). Note that most of these are more suggestions, rather than strict "you'll be banned if you do this!" warnings. This is just stuff to keep in mind as you write for the enjoyment of everyone else in the federation. Except, of course, plagiarism, which is very serious and a slap in the face to anyone who creatively writes for the BWF.
THE BASIC STUFF
As a fantasy angle fed, roleplays are not required to compete in the BWF. However, superstar promos and blogs are still encouraged, in addition to television segments for Havok and PPV events. When you write pieces, please keep the following points in mind.
RATED M FOR MATURE: BWF Legacy, airing on Friday nights, has always been and always will be a TV-MA program. You are allowed to swear both on television and in promos, but please, don't overdo it. There is a difference between tasteful swearing and flat out shock value. In addition, please don't do anything illegal in your promos. If you want to show yourself getting high, that's fine. If you want to show yourself beating an old woman to death with a tire iron, you'll be asked to edit it accordingly or risk seeing it removed. Also, we might suggest you seek psychological help or at the very least, you won't be invited to the Arbor Day Pot Luck Social, and you'd feel really bad if you missed out on a juicy mouthful of Casey Campbell's cookies. (Don't feel bad if you don't get that joke. You stick around long enough, you will.)
HEY, IT'S ME... BUT I DIDN'T WRITE THAT!: If you use another wrestler in your promo, you MUST have permission from that handler. You also cannot attack another wrestler in your promos unless, again, all parties sign off on it. Very simple. BWF announcers are free reign for anybody to use (and please, use them, it's why they exist!) but consult me if you wish to feature any other staff, such as my own characters, in your promos. (Usually if you want to use Emily, it's fine; I reserve the right to tweak her verbiage if I'd like, but otherwise, I'm pretty fine with whatever happening to her.)
STONE COLD STEVE WHO?: While BWF recognizes real-life federations such as WWE, AEW, and so on as actual competition, they will be rarely mentioned, if at all. If you choose to reference WWE, AEW, etc in your promos, its fine, but you may not feature any real wrestlers in your pieces. The same goes for celebrities. Be original!
WHAT ROAD SCHEDULE?: BWF does not hold house shows, so if you cut a promo at one, everyone's gonna call you a dirty hippy liar and kick you in the shins.
F#%$ YOU, I TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE WON THAT MATCH!: I want the BWF experience to be as ego-free as possible, but every now and then, someone's likely to get upset that they weren't put over so-and-so or didn't win a title or so on and so forth. If you feel like you're getting overlooked for storylines and opportunities, PM me in private and we'll talk about your position in the BWF going forward. Flaming me on the boards because you're upset with a judgment call I made will NOT be tolerated.
IF IT ISN'T ON THE BOARDS, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN: A simple enough rule: posting links to promos or blogs hosted on another site or server is fine, BUT you must also post the content on the boards along with it. Sometimes other websites crash, and if your promo cannot be easily accessed, it cannot be enjoyed by others. Also, please don't edit the content of a piece after people have reacted to it. It's only going to encourage people to stop responding to your work.
PLAGIARISM: Anybody caught plagiarizing work from another handler or source will be immediately removed from the BWF. We're all writers and there's no place for this, especially with the competitive aspect of roleplaying removed. Offender's accounts will be banned, and they (handler and character) will be reported to BWF's affiliates and blacklisted. Yes, this has happened in the past and no, it's not fun for anybody involved.
STRATS AND SEGMENTS
THE ART OF THE STRAT: Strats, or strategies, are small write-ups sent to the writer of a match by a competitor that describe specific spots the handler would like to see in their match. This can (and should) also include reactions to winning or losing, if they want to use a specific prop during a match that allows it, or even if they wish to not submit, or so on and so forth. If you have any match strats for whoever is writing your match (usually myself, unless noted otherwise in a match writing thread), please have them in as soon as possible. If sent after the match writer has completed the match, the choice to use them will be at the discretion of the writer. Also, send strats to me if you're not sure who to send it to. I'll make sure they get into the right hands if necessary.
SEGMENTS MAKE THE (WRESTLING) WORLD GO ROUND: In-show segments, typically interviews or anything happening backstage during the event, truly spice up match results and can help move a storyline forward or start a new feud. Taking the extra step will help you get noticed in BWF! Segments can be submitted until the show is posted, but the sooner you get them in, the easier for me to make sure they end up on the show. Any segments or strats submitted after final deadline may be excluded at my discretion. I am not responsible if you procrastinate in getting me a segment and the show is posted before you are able to get it to me.
ENDING YOUR UWA-BWF CAREER
LEAVING THE BWF: Not every fed is going to be a perfect fit for every person, I understand that more than most, having been doing this nearly 20 years myself. However, show quality can suffer if people come and go like a revolving door, hurting storylines and so on. Therefore, if you wish to leave the BWF, you may do so at any time, however, your character may still be written into a few shows after you leave for the sake of wrapping up a storyline. In some cases, if you're not featured in a major storyline, the release may be immediate. It will be up to my discretion to decide this on a case by case basis. Also, it's just respectful to let me know if you wish to leave. I certainly won't be upset, and I much prefer it to someone who just stops showing up and remains inactive for months. "Did he leave? Has anybody heard from him?" It gets annoying. I'd prefer to give pushes to active people over someone who left BWF and didn't even notify me that they were doing so.
DOING THE J-O-B: If you are the holder of a Championship and you decide to leave the BWF, you will be booked to drop said Championship, either via a match result or a stripping, before being officially released. Nobody leaves BWF with gold.
