Episode #88 - July 9, 2022
Miguel Perez Vs. Crimson Ghost
The show was set to start with singles action as Alejandro Torres and Josh Goldstein were both banned from ringside. Perez and Ghost met in the middle of the ring and started to unload with punches that had the two moving around the ring. Ghost would get backed into the corner and Perez would be spun into the corner. Perez looked for Green-Lighted (Jumping Complete Shot) but Ghost turned it into a uranage. Perez stood right into Ghost taking him down with a swinging neckbreaker. The match started to turn when Perez put his thumb in the eye of Ghost. Perez hammered him with blows and sent his opponent into the ropes. Ghost came back with Scarlet Skull Splitter (Springboard Forearm Smash)! Crimson Ghost went into a cover but Perez was able to kick out in time. Ghost looked for a hurricanrana but Perez countered into Got Popped (Powerbomb Lungblower)! Perez started to pull Ghost up but Ghost rolled him up with a small package for two. Both men were up and Perez clotheslined Ghost over the top and both went spilling to the floor. The fans booed as Alejandro Torres reached over the barricade and held onto Ghost and Perez hit a jumping knee! The referee tossed out the match as the 323 attacked Ghost at ringside.
WINNER: Crimson Ghost via DQ @ 13:41
The fans popped as Josh Goldstein rushed to the ring and hit Perez with the Chutzpah Boot (Running Yakuza kick)! Trainers rushed down to separate the two teams as the fans cheered on.
Kayla Taylor Vs. Jason Evans
Evans and Kaito Hirano attacked Kayla Taylor as she made her way to the ring before rolling her into the ring. The referee checked on Taylor and she wanted to compete. She pulled herself up and the bell rang as Evans charged and put his knees into her chest as she was still in the corner. Evans pulled her into the center of the ring and shouted as he lifted her for the Fate's Dagger (Falcon Arrow) but she countered into a small package for two! Both competitors popped up and Taylor had to duck a clothesline. She tried to grab Evans from behind and he spun and hit her with an elbow to the side of the head. Evans grabbed Taylor and delivered a tornado DDT and pulled her right up and hit Fate’s Dagger! Evans went to the top rope and hit Overdrive (630 Splash) before covering for three.
WINNER: Jason Evans via pinfall @ 4:09
COPPERHEAD
Casey Grey walks out of the back and down the ramp. She climbs the steps and enters the ring. She is handed a microphone from ringside and moves to the center of the ring as the warehouse goes quiet.
Casey Grey: So, AJ Adams has been blabbing a bit lately. It seems that he’s gotten the impression that I’m ducking him and this match. That’s an interesting take. First thing, killer, I have never dodged anybody. Anybody that has ever wanted to step up to me could, and they still can. And now it seems you want my rematch as your title shot.
Casey addresses the crowd.
Casey Grey: I’m sorry. If I knew it would stop his talking I would have knocked his teeth out a few weeks ago for you guys.
She turns back to the camera.
Casey Grey: But I don’t think that would have stopped him anyway. I do know what will shut him up, though. Hopefully. Hey, Adams. You want my shot? You can have it.
Casey shrugs.
Casey Grey: I don’t care. Take it. It’s yours. Are you happy now? I hope so but I’m damn sure not letting you out of this match you’ve begged for, and I’m still kicking your ass when I see you in this ring.
Casey exits the ring and walks to the back, leaving everyone stunned. Nonchalant. Unbothered.
Scott Parker: What in the world just happened?
EW SPARTAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Austin Scott Vs. Melody Slayton (c)
Austin Scott had signed an open challenge contract after last week’s event and a quick clip of that was shown as he talked about how he was going to drop Slayton on her head. The match was announced as both competitors were in the ring. Slayton and Scott circled each other to kick us off and Scott wanted to use his size to his advantage as he had his opponent backed into a corner. Slayton fired away with chops to the chest but Scott quickly shut her down with knees to the gut. Scott kept clubbing Slayton with lariats to the chest before she dropped to a knee. He looked for Goin' Muddin' (Opponent is seated in the corner, charges and connects with a running knee to the skull) but Slayton was just able to roll away. Scott grabbed at his knee and Slayton saw the opening to superkick it! Scott fell to the mat and this allowed Slayton to his This Magic Moment (V Trigger)! Slayton hit a crucifix bomb and covered Scott for two before he kicked out. Slayton pulled Scott to his feet and applied a headlock. Slayton delivered a couple European uppercuts before sending him into a corner. Slayton got the fans behind her before she was able to hit a big corner splash.
Slayton was getting herself fired up and went to the top rope. She looked for a crossbody and Scott caught her before hitting a fall away slam! Scott kipped up to his feet and pulled Slayton up. He ran the ropes three times before hitting a vicious Straight Whiskey (Running lariat) that flipped her inside out. Scott hooked a leg for a cover and picked up two before Slayton kicked out! Scott quickly went into the Lock 'em Up (Rings of Saturn) and had it locked in! Slayton was in the center of the ring but was somehow able to inch her way and got a foot on the rope to cause a break. Scott tried to pull her away from the ropes but she kicked him in the face and got to her feet. She jumped up and hit a spiking DDT in the center of the ring and crawled to the corner. Slayton sat on the second rope and delivered the Glitter Bomb (Panama Sunrise)! Slayton covered and picked up a pinfall.
WINNER AND STILL EW SPARTAN CHAMPION: Melody Slayton via pinfall @ 18:29
She Did What?
Our shot opens backstage with AJ Adams sitting in the trainer's area getting tape put on his wrists and knees before putting on his knee pads. He excuses the doctors as Kevin Olson comes into frame trying to get a quick work.
Kevin Olson: AJ, can we get a comment on Casey Grey seemingly just giving her title rematch to you?
AJ Adams: Weird, huh? Part of me says it’s too good to be true and she has something up her sleeve and the other doesn’t care. You all heard it and I’m going to take advantage of it. You’re looking at the next EW World Champion.
Daniel Daemon Vs. Harper Blake
Blake paced around the ring as the Emperor of Empire made his way down slowly. He loomed over her as she took a few moments to approach once he stood in the ring. Blake opened things up with a hard chop to the chest that didn’t even make him flinch. Daemon brushed it off and then swatted her down like a fly with a chop of his own. Blake got to her feet and Daemon lifted her up off the mat and let her splat on the mat face first. He put his boot on her back and walked over her as she screamed out. Blake crawled to the ropes and pulled herself up near a corner. Daemon charged and missed a big corner splash as Blake dodged it. She caught the big man with a step up enziguri and then a jumping forearm to the face. Blake ran the ropes but came right back into a big boot to the face. Blake rolled up and Daemon was there to deliver a chokeslam. He stood over her for a moment before deadlifting her up and delivering Twist of Cain II (Vertical Suplex Piledriver) and covering for a pinfall.
WINNER: Daniel Daemon via pinfall @ 3:22
The Owl
“A wise old owl lived in an oak. The more he saw the less he spoke. The less he spoke the more he heard. Why can’t we all be like that wise old bird?”
The nursery rhyme ended as we had been looking at the back of the head of one Manic. She turned and had a twisted smile on her face as she blinked quickly.
Manic: You squawk. Words. Over and over. In the end all you will have are your words. We will take everything from you and leave you with only words.
Manic starts to laugh as we cut away.
AJ Adams Vs. Aislin Finn
We were set for our main event as the two competitors locked up. Finn opened with a right hand and Adams landed a left and pulled her in for a side headlock. Finn spun free and applied her own but Adams quickly flipped her to the mat. The two went toe for toe in exchanging holds before Finn caught Adams with an elbow to the face that stunned him. She used the opening to land a series of quick kicks and a blockbuster neckbreaker. Finn tried to keep things moving quickly as she kept the pressure on Adams. She tried to keep attacking the knee of Adams for her Cwlwm finisher later. A dragon screw had Adams being checked on by the referees but he was able to continue and push through. Finn charged and Adams tried to counter and lift her onto his shoulders but his knee gave out and he fell to a knee. Finn used the opening to deliver her Crann Tabhaill (Springboard Corkscrew Roundhouse Kick)! She covered but Adams was able to kick out before three.
Adams had an opening when Finn went to the top for an elbow but he got out of the way. Adams grabbed her from behind and hit LA to NY (Sitout inverted DDT). Adams covered but couldn’t get a hook of the leg before Finn kicked out. The two exchanged blows and Adams got the upper hand with a hard uppercut. Adams hit a butterfly suplex and Finn rolled out of the ring to regroup. Adams went after her and walked into a chop. He came back with a knee to the gut and rolled her into the ring. Adams followed and Finn flipped him down as he reached down into a pin attempt for two! Adams and Finn got to their feet and Adams dropped Finn with the Last Call (Codebreaker)! Adams grabbed at his knee and used precious time before going into a cover and Finn kicked out at two. Finn tried to get to her feet and she tried to take him down with the Barghest (Rolling Guillotine Choke Armbar) but he countered by lifting her to his shoulders and hitting a GTS! Adams pulled her up and quickly hit the Legacy Maker (Sister Abigail) and covered for a pinfall win.
WINNER: AJ Adams via pinfall @ 19:13
Adams celebrated after the match as we got a reminder that AJ Adams and Casey Grey would square off next week on Hype. It was announced on screen and over the air that if Casey Grey could pick up a win against AJ Adams she’d be added to the EW World Championship match at Next Level: Victorem! Adams just shook his head and took a deep breath as Casey Grey walked out to the stage, laughing, as we ended the show.
