EPISODE #3
LOCATION: Wells Fargo Arena - Des Moines, Iowa
DATE: December 12, 2021
ATTENDANCE: 16,980 [16,980 Capacity - SELLOUT]
Alison James: We are SOLD OUT here tonight in Des Moines, Iowa; welcome to the final stop on the road to Holiday Havok! This is Sunday Night Shockwave!
Liam Stewart: Things are rolling as we head towards the pay-per-view, Alison. But tonight’s main event is a showdown years in the making. Not since their classic series of matches in TGW nearly a decade ago have Emily Corlen and Stutterfly faced off, and while Stutterfly has never beaten Emily, she hopes to change that tonight, just two weeks before her massive World Championship match against the undefeated Johnny Maverick at Holiday Havok!
The show cuts backstage to a beaming Minka Carter as she carries her newly won BWF United States Championship with her down the hallway. For obvious reasons, she’s in a very good mood considering her huge conquest two weeks ago. Once she arrives in the catering area, she spots Kimmy Evans holding a microphone. She stops in her tracks, initially not knowing how to perceive her. However, she smirks at her as Kimmy approaches her.
Minka Carter: Who are you, cute one?
Kimmy Evans: I’m Kimmy Evans, interviewer for BWF.
Minka Carter: Are you single?
Kimmy Evans: Um…
Minka just bursts out laughing.
Minka Carter: I’m just messing with you, sweetheart. Go ahead. What is it that you want to talk to me about? I’m in a hell of a mood you know!
Kimmy Evans: Of course, I wanted to talk to you about your huge United States Championship victory two weeks ago. It definitely wasn’t easy especially since you had gotten off to a bad start before, but you surely turned it around real fast. What is the feeling like knowing that you are now the United States Champion?
Minka Carter: AMAZING! I have a feeling that people were writing me off after my first night here. “Off nights” happen even for the best of wrestlers and that was just that. Like you said, I turned it around REAL fast and I knew that if I applied myself and upped my game, I was going to dominate the competition to the United States Championship and that’s pretty much what I did! Those poor souls… they just couldn’t keep up with me!
Kimmy Evans: You came in here on a mission to be a world champion and you have even expressed that you were sick and tired of being ‘the best wrestler that’s never been a world champion’, something along those lines. The world title tournament went rather badly for you, but you managed to win the United States championship. Do you see this as a consolation prize for you?
Minka Carter: Consolation prize?
Minka scoffs at this notion.
Minka Carter: Not even CLOSE! What this is for me is PROOF that I can and will compete at a high level here! I know coming in here I was a lightly regarded signing and everything and no matter how much I said I was going to be one of the best signings this company has had in a long time, nobody bothered to listen. I bet they’re listening now! Oh sure, it’s not the world championship. BUT, the United States championship carries its own prestige in and of itself! I don’t need to go down the list of people that have held this title. The only one on that list that I care about is ME. I plan on carrying this championship to greater heights than before. I don’t need to be one of the many legends and the many wrestlers that have held this title, I only need to be me. As I proved when I won this, being ME is what TRULY mattered in the end and I will be damned if I lose this belt to a PRETENDER! I KNOW how to be a dominant champion and here in BWF, that’s exactly what I will be!
Kimmy Evans: You won’t have to wait long to find out who your first challenger is going to be. You’ve got a number one contender’s match between Vanessa and Joanna tonight and they were probably your closest competition in that ladder match. Do you have a preference for who you would rather face?
Minka Carter: They were rather decent in that ladder match, yes. And really, I’d be able to win against either of them. I JUST beat them in that ladder match after all…
Kimmy Evans: Vanessa DID beat Joanna in their last encounter.
Minka Carter: That doesn’t necessarily give her an advantage. I mean, she beat Joanna and… I’m not getting into that with my debut experience, I just won’t. What I mean is, by proxy, Vanessa should’ve won that ladder match right? She didn’t. I DID!
Kimmy Evans: I noticed your hesitation just now when you brought up Joanna. Would that make her your personal preference to avenge what happened when you debuted here?
Minka Carter: In my book, winning this championship already did that. BUT, if I get a chance to silence a fluke, Cinderella story once and for all, that is EXACTLY what I will do. If I have to beat her one more time to prove that she is NOT better than me and she got by on a FLUKE when BWF returned, then so be it! Either way, what this company is learning about me is that I don’t mind making ANYONE suffer to get to where I want to be in this business. Simple as that! Thanks for the time. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a number one contender’s match to keep an eye on…
Minka confidently walks by Kimmy to watch that match. Kimmy is left alone to process the interview as the scene fades out.
MATCH TYPE: Singles [1 vs. 1]
STIPULATION: N/A
PARTICIPANTS: Aislin Finn (1-2-0), Kasey Kash (2-2-0)
ASSIGNED OFFICIAL: Jack Stampler
COUNTOUTS: Yes
DISQUALIFICATIONS: Yes
MATCH FINISH: Frustrated with his recent string of losses to World Champion Johnny Maverick, Kasey came into this match looking to make a statement, but he wasn’t the only one. Aislin dominated for a good chunk of the match, taking advantage of Kasey’s perhaps distracted nature and pulling out several near falls. After an errant Crann Tabhaill (Springboard Corkscrew Roundhouse Kick) accidentally connected with Jack Stampler, Kasey wasted no time in utilizing the series of events to his advantage, hitting Aislin square between the eyes with a pair of brass knuckles. Kasey covered, the fans booed loudly, and Jack came to just long enough to count the three.
WINNER: Kasey Kash (3-2-0) [via Pinfall]
TIME ELAPSED: 9 Minutes, 33 Seconds
POST-MATCH COMMENTARY: “A miscarriage of justice!” - Alison James
“More like quick thinking from the former Revolution X Champion! Well done, Kasey! THAT’S how you get back to winning!” - Liam Stewart
We see Emily Corlen arriving at the arena to a thunderous reaction. She greets a few backstage officials, and then makes her way into the arena. Along the way, she turns a corner and accidentally bumps into Austin Darcy, who spills his beer.
Emily apologizes, but Austin attacks her the moment she tries to leave, throwing her into the wall and kicking her several times in the head before more backstage officials and a few wrestlers pull him off of her.
Alison James: Oh my goodness, Austin Darcy has snapped!
Liam Stewart: That’s what happens when you waste good beer!
Alison James: Hopefully we’ll get an update soon; our main event may be in jeopardy thanks to a few misplaced hops and barley!
MATCH TYPE: Tag Team [2 vs. 2; Tags Required]
STIPULATION: N/A
PARTICIPANTS: Helena Handbasket (2-2-0), Logan Bailey (2-1-0), Andi Seraph (0-2-0), Luke Marshall (0-1-0)
ASSIGNED OFFICIAL: Bella Kosiboski
COUNTOUTS: Yes
DISQUALIFICATIONS: Yes
MATCH FINISH: Helena and Logan came into this match as the favorites, already being an established team elsewhere, while Andi and Luke were teaming together for the very first time. However, they may have been hungrier for a win, and that’s exactly what they got when Luke pinned Helena following the Green and Golden Bomb (Sit Out Last Ride Powerbomb).
WINNERS: Andi Seraph (1-2-0) & Luke Marshall (1-1-0) [via Pinfall]
TIME ELAPSED: 11 Minutes, 15 Seconds
POST-MATCH COMMENTARY: “What an upset! Andi and Luke gelled surprisingly well as a team, and I’m not sure even Helena and Logan were expecting it!” - Alison James
“Oh, and it looks like we’re not done between these two yet!” - Liam Stewart
Indeed, Logan and a recovered Helena are now having a heated(?) conversation with Andi and Luke. Before anything but talking can happen, “Ready And Willing” by New Found Glory starts playing as BWF President David Slayton makes his way out to the stage.
David Slayton: Hey, hey, now. Hold on just a second. I know tempers might be flaring - even the nicest wrestlers can get agitated sometimes - but I’m out here with an announcement that I think will make all four of you smile.
The four competitors in the ring turn their attention to the stage.
David Slayton: Now, I was planning on waiting a bit for this, until we maybe had a few more tag teams active in the company, but after the great match we just witnessed? Screw it, we’ll figure it out. At Holiday Havok on December 26, the four of you are going to have another tag team match. Hopefully just as good, if not better, than this one. Because the NEXT one…
David pauses for a moment before reaching under his blazer and producing one of the vacant BWF Tag Team Title belts to a huge pop.
David Slayton: …will be for the BWF Tag Team Championships!
Helena, Luke and Andi all nod in approval. Logan steps forward with the rest, and everyone but Helena is surprised to see that Logan is once again a man. The four then turn their attention to one another again, this time fired up for their forthcoming Championship contest.
Liam Stewart: We’re going to crown Tag Team Champions at Holiday Havok!
Alison James: Those titles are very special to me, and I’m very happy to see them back on television and, soon, back around the waists of BWF’s top teams. Astounding news!
MATCH TYPE: Singles [1 vs. 1]
STIPULATION: BWF United States Championship #1 Contender’s Match; Marisol Vilaro is Banned from Ringside
PARTICIPANTS: Vanessa Page (1-2-0), Joanna the Jungle Girl (1-3-0)
ASSIGNED OFFICIAL: Theo Martin
COUNTOUTS: Yes
DISQUALIFICATIONS: Yes
MATCH FINISH: Vanessa’s manager, Marisol Vilaro, was banned from ringside prior to this contest due to her involvement in the last encounter between these two leading to a victory for Vanessa. As it turns out, a good mandate can’t keep a better manager down, as a camerawoman who looked surprisingly like Marisol wearing a wig found her way onto the ring apron and attempted to distract Joanna, leading to a near fall. Referee Theo Martin, realizing what was happening, yanked Marisol’s wig off and demanded that officials remove her from the ringside area. As Vanessa argued with Theo over this turn of events, Joanna recovered, grabbed Vanessa from behind and hit her with the Hear Me Roar (Tiger Suplex with Pin) for the three count and the win!
WINNER: Joanna the Jungle Girl (2-3-0) [via Pinfall]
TIME ELAPSED: 14 Minutes, 35 Seconds
POST-MATCH COMMENTARY: “Underhanded tactics from Marisol and Vanessa were not enough to stop the Jungle Girl this week, and as a result, Joanna moves on to Holiday Havok to compete for the BWF United States Championship!” - Alison James
“I can only imagine how upset THIS is going to make Vanessa and co. And you know what? I’m with them! How dare the referee put his hands on Marisol like that?!” - Liam Stewart
As Joanna celebrates in the ring, the camera shifts backstage, where we see Minka Carter, United States Title over her shoulder, watching on a TV monitor. She nods, cracks her knuckles, and walks away, already readying herself for a big fight in Cincinnati.
MATCH TYPE: Singles [1 vs. 1]
STIPULATION: N/A
PARTICIPANTS: Emily Corlen (0-1-0), Stutterfly (0-0-0)
ASSIGNED OFFICIAL: Sydney Rodgers
COUNTOUTS: Yes
DISQUALIFICATIONS: Yes
MATCH FINISH: Despite her earlier attack by Austin Darcy, Emily came to the ring, ready to fight, if not a little worse for wear. She insisted that she was fine as the match began, but Stutterfly certainly didn’t pull any punches with Emily’s current state in mind. The #1 Contender for the World Championship dominated for almost the entire match, perhaps using the contest as a showcase for why she deserved to face Johnny at Holiday Havok. After several near falls, Stutterfly finally finished Emily off (and defeated her for the first time in singles competition) following a combo Limit Break (RKO) and Final Smash (Swanton Bomb).
WINNER: Stutterfly (1-0-0) [via Pinfall]
TIME ELAPSED: 15 Minutes, 54 Seconds
POST-MATCH COMMENTARY: “And just like that, Stutterfly has defeated a former World Champion, en route to facing the current one at Holiday Havok.” - Liam Stewart
“As much as I may disagree with much of what my sister does, I can’t deny that she was effective here tonight.” - Alison James
As Stutterfly celebrates, “Subtle Hustle” by Clutch hits the BlazenTron and BWF World Champion Johnny Maverick makes his way out onto the stage, clapping. He unstraps the title from his waist, holds it up in the air and points at Stutterfly, silently mouthing the words “You’re next”. Stutterfly, from the second rope, simply stares at Johnny, motioning around her waist for the belt and pointing right back at him.
Alison James: We’re just about out of time tonight here in Des Moines, but folks, don’t forget to join us in two short weeks when BWF returns to pay-per-view with Holiday Havok!
Liam Stewart: More than halls are going to get decked in Cincinnati! HA!
Alison James: Indeed they will, Liam. For my partner here, I’m Alison James… good night from Sunday Night Shockwave! We’ll see you on pay-per-view!
We see one final shot of Stutterfly and Johnny Maverick staring one another down (a familiar sight at this point) before the show fades to the BWF logo, and ultimately, to black.
