An End... and a Beginning
The cameras go live inside the House of Blazenwing as we join the Owner of the BWF, Emily Corlen, waiting in the ring, mic in hand. Aside from a lone spotlight in the ring, the arena is completely dark.
Emily Corlen: Good evening. My name is Emily Corlen, six-time World Champion and Owner of the BWF... and I'm joining you here tonight at the top of the hour to make the announcement you've all been waiting for. What is the future of the Blazenwing Wrestling Federation? Now, I could be a jerk and draw this out for a bit. Talk about the history of the company and what it's meant to hundreds, if not thousands, of people. But... we have a hell of a show tonight and I'm itching to get to it, so I'm just going to hit you with the broadest of strokes. The Blazenwing Wrestling Federation, as a stand-alone entity, ends tonight with Finish Line. That much is known. So, what does that mean going forward? What comes next?
Emily glances to her side and pauses before continuing.
Emily Corlen: I do have to apologize, first and foremost. There was supposed to be somebody else out here making this announcement with me tonight, but... they're a little busy with their own show airing tomorrow night, so it couldn't be helped. That DOES mean that I get to make this historic announcement all on my own, though, and anybody who knows Emily Corlen knows how much I love making history. That's why I am pleased to officially announce that, as of the end of tonight's show, the Blazenwing Wrestling Federation and Empire Wrestling are officially uniting under one company banner! Welcome to the Next Era. Welcome to the United Wrestling Alliance.
Emily Corlen: Now, I know a lot of you armchair wrestlers in the crowd and watching at home guessed this announcement in one form or another. But, we here in UWA don't like to be that predictable, so we're still changing it up a little bit. See, the original plan was to simply operate under the UWA banner with our respective events, something like a brand extension. While we are keeping that aspect of the unification, myself and the heads of Empire came to a realization just a few short weeks ago. Why do the Blazenwing and Empire brands need to fade away simply for UWA to stand on its own? That's why I'm pleased to make this announcement as well... the Blazenwing and Empire Wrestling branding are officially remaining active in this new era. Tonight IS the final night for the BWF... but in two weeks, when we go live for the first time under this new company banner, we will officially be known as UWA-BWF. In addition, all BWF and Empire Championships will retain their current branding, so whoever leaves Finish Line as the BWF World Champion, as an example, will still be BWF World Champion in two weeks... two months... heck, two years.
A beat and a smirk.
Emily Corlen: I mean, provided they can hold on to the title that long.
The crowd chuckles before Emily continues.
Emily Corlen: Now, with that being said, it would feel like a bit of a cop out if nothing changed at all. That's why, after much deliberation and blessings from the founder of BWF himself, David Blazenwing, we are officially retiring BWF Havok as a company brand as of now, meaning that episode 235 was the final episode. But, of course, we still NEED a show, so what do we call it? I looked into the past for inspiration. There have been many program titles BWF has utilized over the years. Havok, Mayhem, Crisis, Chaos... I couldn't help but notice something of a theme. While these names all have their place in BWF history, I really wanted something new, something that represented the legacy that BWF brings with it. And, after searching for some time, I realized the answer was staring me straight in the face. On January 15th, 2021, UWA-BWF will go live with the first episode of our brand new flagship series... Legacy.
Emily Corlen: There are more things to discuss with both our competitors and our fans. Some of it will no doubt be covered tomorrow night at the first ever official UWA event, Next Level: Turmoil. As far as right now goes, rest assured that any questions any of you have will be answered in due time. But... I think I've made all of you wait long enough. It's time to start the show. Welcome to an event eighteen years in the making. Welcome to BWF Finish Line.
January 1, 2021
The lights in the arena come on and pyro goes off on the stage as the fans in attendance and watching at home via the Thunderdome-style set-up all cheer raucously. The camera pans around the House of Blazenwing before settling on the announce team of Alison James and Liam Stewart.
Alison James: What a way to kick tonight's event off, Liam! The BWF and EW are officially combining under a single company banner, the United Wrestling Alliance!
Liam Stewart: It's big news, that's for sure, Ali. It's definitely going to change things going forward, that much is for sure. Just like tonight's event could change things for many people! All five BWF championships are on the line, PLUS we will determine the 2021 Money in the Bank briefcase holder tonight! It's gonna be HUGE!
Alison James: Let's not wait any longer. It's time to kick things off with a Fatal 4-Way Match featuring not one, not two, but three debuting BWF competitors! Let's get to it!
The Highlights...
- In a bit of an early surprise, Billie Sky and Switchblxde found themselves working together, much to the delight of the BWF fans; despite Sky's possible(?) role in Switchblxde's loss to The Crimson Ghost weeks prior. Both competitors in particular seemed quite over the with the crowd.
- Of the new debuts, Vasuki impressed with several close falls, nearly winning the match on several occasions.
- Oceania seemingly had the match won at one point following the Tidal Wave (Superkick) to Switchblxde. She covered, the ref counted the three, but he noticed Switchblxde's foot on the bottom rope before calling for the bell, leading to the match continuing, much to Oceania's chagrin.
The Finish...
After recovering from the near loss to Oceania, Switchblxde seemingly kicked things into another gear, showcasing the skills that made him a former Tag Team Champion in CWA and OATH. After laying out Oceania with the Concussion (Running Knee to the Back of the Head) outside the ring, he headed to the top rope. In the ring, Billie Sky hit Vasuki with The Purge! (Shining Wizard) and covered, but before the referee even had a chance to count, Switchblxde jumped off and landed on both Sky and Vasuki with the Dumpster Dive (Diving Senton Bomb)! Billie rolled off of the cover and Switchblxde quickly took her place, scoring the three count and the win on Vasuki.
WINNER: Switchblxde, via Pinfall
"Mercury" by Ghostemane hit the BlazenTron as Switchblxde rolled to his feet and nodded. He celebrated as he exited the ring and pointed at a few of the fans in attendance (gotta keep up that social distancing, after all!)
Liam Stewart: What a match to kick this night off! Bodies flying every which way, four incredibly promising talents showcasing their skills, and my boy Switchblxde pulling off the well-deserved win!
Alison James: Since when is Switchblxde "your boy"?
Liam Stewart: I'm hoping if I say it enough, it'll come true. YOU ROCK, SWITCHBLXDE!
Alison James: ...right. Anyway, let's shift things now to tonight's first title match of the evening... the Tag Team Titles are on the line in what is sure to be a hotly-contested Triple Threat Tag Team Match!
The Highlights...
- This match was contested under normal tag rules, with one member of each team active at a time, creating a triple threat scenario for the active competitors. The Candy Boys made frequent use of the tag ropes, keeping their opponents guessing with lots of tags. They also tried to prevent the others from tagging, leading to frustration from the Krushers and the Freaks.
- One of the more humorous moments of the match occurred when Drake Connors, fighting with Krista May, hit her with the Touch of Death (Full Force Heart Punch), leading to Kayla yelling "HE JUST PUNCHED MY GIRLFRIEND'S TITTY! WHAT THE FUCK?!" Johnny and Finale both stopped what they were doing to 'tsk-tsk' Drake and harshly judge him. While a flabbergasted Drake tried to explain, Krista rolled him up for a 2 count. Johnny yelled something about violence against women being horrendous, right before clotheslining Kayla off of the apron.
- The biggest moment of the match came when things broke down, leading to all six competitors brawling at ringside. In a rare moment of camaraderie, the Kaiju Krushers and the Freaks With Benefits temporarily aligned, working together to take out the current champs, leading to both Finale and Johnny being driven through one of the announcer's tables at ringside!
The Finish...
With the Candy Boys (temporarily) out of the picture, their opponents took the opportunity to finish off the match and lay claim to the titles. The two teams returned to the ring and began brawling, with Kayla taking on Drake and Krista May fighting with Hayato. After a hellacious back and forth, Drake got Kayla in the Torment of the Fallen (Innovated Submission) while Hayato wrestled Krista May to the ground and refused to let her go. Finale and Johnny, finally recovered, both made their way into the ring to break things up, but before either man could, Kayla tapped out and the referee called for the bell.
WINNERS AND NEW BWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: Drake Connors & Hayato Sagara-Connors, via Submission
"Brand New Numb" by Motionless In White hit the BlazenTron as Drake releases the hold and stands up, followed by Hayato. The music stops as Finale and Johnny rip the Tag Team Titles out of the ref's hands; they walk up to the Kaiju Krushers, give them a long, hard stare, and finally hand the belts over, nodding to the new Champs while loudly proclaiming that "If somebody had to end our decades long undefeated streak, I'm glad it was you two". Drake and Hayato embrace, then celebrate with their new titles as the crowd cheers.
Alison James: The Kaiju Krushers have done it! We have new BWF Tag Team Champions!
Liam Stewart: Nooooo, not the Candy Boys 2000! How will BWF survive without it's greatest team carrying the division?
Alison James: I think the company will be fine, Liam. I daresay the Tag Team division is in excellent hands moving forward.
The Highlights...
- Vincent Thorn looked to make a statement in his debut, and he did, kicking off the contest with a lightning-quick VTS (RKO) to Azurine Vebbins! Even Kasey Kash seemed caught off-guard, but he quickly shook himself out of it and broke up the following pin attempt by Thorn.
- Not one to be outdone, Kash showed Thorn his own variant of the move, as minutes later, with Thorn distracted by Vebbins, he caught Thorn out of nowhere with his Canberra Collapse (Springboard Cutter). A cover, but Azurine broke it up.
The Finish...
After watching the 'boys' continually try to one up the other, Azurine had seen enough. She sat back, bode her time, and waited until one of them was prone. That ended up being Vincent Thorn, who Azurine caught with the Pearly Gatekeeper (Dragon Suplex into a Double-Handed Jawbreaker) following a particular nasty clothesline to Kash. Azurine covered, but Thorn kicked out at the last moment! Both Kasey and Vincent stood up at the same time and both went for Az, but she rolled out of the way, leading both men to collide with a vicious headbutt to the other! As they staggered, Azurine rolled up Thorn and scored the three count JUST as a dazed Kash dove to broke the pin up!
WINNER AND STILL BWF SOVEREIGN CHAMPION: Azurine Vebbins, via Pinfall
"Radio Gaga" by Queen played as Azurine quickly rolled out of the ring and was handed her title. Kasey argued with the ref in vain, trying to say he broke up the pin, but the ref insisted he didn't. Azurine shrugged as she draped the title over her shoulder and made her way up the ramp, celebrating.
Alison James: A close win for Azurine there, but that's really the best you can ask for in multi-person situations like this one. That match could have absolutely gone to any of these competitors!
Liam Stewart: It tends to come down to who makes the first mistake, yeah? And tonight, that was Vinnie and Kasey. Azurine took advantage of a major opportunity, and as a result, she's leaving as STILL your BWF Sovereign Champion!
The Highlights...
- As the match began, Stutterfly's mystery partner refused to unmask, infuriating the 2 Broke Chicks. They all quickly tied up, striking with whatever weapons they could find. (As a No Holds Barred match, there were no tags involved.)
- The Chicks seemed intent on punishing the mystery competitor, hitting them with anything they could get their hands on and struggling to rip the hoodie off and reveal their treachery to the world. This left Stutterfly open to interfere any time they got close, until finally the Chicks decided to split their efforts and each take one of their opponents.
- Harper nearly finished the match when she hit the masked opponent with the Cha Ching (Death Valley Driver) onto a steel chair, but she refused to cover until she and Chiaki could do it together (determined to both leave as Champ, no matter what the boss declared). This lull before Chiaki could return to the ring after laying out Stutterfly likely gave the mystery person enough time to be able to kick out, much to the Chicks' anger.
The Finish...
Determined to finish this chapter in their careers once and for all, the 2 Broke Chicks got the mystery person up for the Pay Day (Doomsday Destroyer), but before Chiaki could leap off and hit the move, Stutterfly popped up out of nowhere and pushed her off, dropping her crotch first on the top rope! The momentary distraction gave the masked person the chance they needed to drop off of Jane's shoulders and hit... the Revolt (Cradle Shock)?! The crowd reacts in shock as the masked person removes the mask and hoodie to reveal their identity as Gabe Shelley! Gabe quickly pulls a table, previously set up across the ring, into position and flips Chiaki onto it before motioning for his wife to take to the air. She does, leaping off with the Sanity's Requiem (Swanton Bomb) through the table! Gabe yells at the referee to count as Stutterfly covers Chiaki in the wreckage of the table, he does, and she scores the three count and the win!
WINNERS: Stutterfly & Gabe Shelley, via Pinfall
STILL BWF REVOLUTION X CHAMPION: Stutterfly
"Mz. Hyde" by Halestorm hits the BlazenTron as Gabe helps his wife to her feet and embraces her lovingly. The referee retrieves the belt and Gabe rips it out of his hands, opting to strap it around Stutterfly's waist himself. The crowd boos as husband and wife take a victory lap around the ring.
Alison James: I am... in shock. Now Katie has dragged Gabe into this madness, too? When does it stop?
Liam Stewart: Why would it stop? Look at them! They're on top of the world! Gabe Shelley and Stutterfly, successful tonight here at BWF Finish Line! Who would have thought Gabe was the man behind the hoodie and the mask all along?!
Alison James: Not me, that's for certain. I can only imagine what comes next for the two of them.
Liam Stewart: I know what comes next for us... it's time to crown the next Money in the Bank holder! Only three competitors in BWF history have been Money in the Bank holders before now - Toco, Star Diamond and Kurt Hullum. Of those, two had successful cash-ins. Tonight, a fourth wrestler etches their name in the history books as the newest Mr. or Ms. Money in the Bank. Will they become the third successful cash-in? Only time will tell!
Alison James: But before they can even worry about that, they've got to WIN the briefcase. The 2021 Legacy Ladder Match begins NOW!
The Highlights...
- Super Tiger ran up a ladder draped against the top rope and leapt off early on, hitting a shooting star press on the other five competitors in the ring!
- Talia Areano and Super Tiger were battling on top of the ladder, when Talia stunned Tiger, followed by hitting her with the Slice of Heaven (Sliced Bread #2), bringing both competitors crashing to the mat!
- Jaxon Taylor hit Zoe Cooper with the JT BOMB (Jackknife Powerbomb) from the top of the ladder as she was trying to retrieve the briefcase! The impact left the former BWF World Champion unable to continue. Taylor nearly retrieved the briefcase following this, but Anaru Kalua shoved the ladder over. Taylor struggled to hold on but ultimately fell, being caught by Crimson Ghost of all people, who turned the fall into a nasty spinebuster!
The Finish...
These matches tend to be a bit of a cluster in the final moments, but this time, as the other competitors fell one by one, it came down to two; Jaxon Taylor and Super Tiger. They battled on top of the ladder, each trying their hardest to stay upright and claim glory. Jaxon, the physically stronger of the two, gained the upper hand, knocking Super Tiger off the ladder, but not out, as she landed unsteadily on her feet. Taylor continued climbing the ladder, reached the top and started to undo the briefcase's latch, but he didn't see Super Tiger coming up the ladder directly behind him! Before he can register what is happening, she grabbed Taylor and yanked him off the top with a wicked Go the F*ck to Sleep (Inferno Snap German Suplex)! Taylor, hurt, rolled to the outside, leaving the ring wide open for Super Tiger to climb the rest of the way and claim victory! The other competitors stirred in the ring and outside, but before any of them could recover, Tiger reached the briefcase and unhooked it, becoming BWF's first-ever female Money in the Bank holder!
WINNER AND 2021 MONEY IN THE BANK HOLDER: Super Tiger
"Legends Never Die" by Halocene plays as Super Tiger cradles the briefcase and lies against the top of the ladder, exhaling deeply.
Alison James: She did it! Super Tiger is the winner of the 2021 Legacy Ladder Match!
Liam Stewart: I thought Jaxon Taylor had that match won! What a come from behind victory! Uh... literally!
Alison James: Congratulations to Super Tiger, who now gets a BWF World Title shot anytime she wants anytime within the year 2021.
Liam Stewart: Could you imagine if she cashed in tonight on her mentor, FM Young?! HANG ON, I GOTTA CALL MY BOOKIE!
'Til Death Do They Part
The camera moves backstage, where we see Revolution X Champion Stutterfly and her partner in crime Gabe Shelley making their way out of the building. Before they can reach their waiting limousine, they are cut off by Will Irwin, mic in hand.
Will Irwin: Hey guys, I don't mean to interrupt you guys leaving or anything, but... what exactly did we just witness out there?
Stutterfly: I think some rando won a ladder match or something? It doesn't affect us, so we don't really care.
Will Irwin: No, I don't mean... I mean, what happened in your match out there? Do you mean to tell me that you, Gabe, have been the random hooded attacker that has been costing the 2 Broke Chicks matches week after week?
Gabe strokes his chin for a moment, thinking before he answers.
Gabe Shelley: Let me tell you a story, Will. Boy Meets Girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Boy and girl eventually drift apart. Boy and girl meet other partners, meaningful relationships, sure. But deep down, boy and girl still carry a flame for each other. Their relationships head south. Then, against all odds, boy and girl reunite and it's like a single day hasn't passed since the last time boy and girl saw each other. Boy marries girl... et cetera, et cetera.
Gabe throws an arm around Will as he continues.
Gabe Shelley: See this girl standing in front of us? She's my other half, Will. My soulmate. My person. The yin to my yang. The mother of my daughter. There's absolutely nothing I would not do for this absolute knockout of a human being. So one day, she and I sat down and decided that something had to change, because frankly, neither one of us was happy since BWF re-opened. So, we reinvented ourselves. I told her that I would do whatever it took to get that belt around her waist and keep it there, and as you've seen with your own eyes, I have more than fulfilled that promise. My beautiful wife is the Revolution X Champion, and she's going to remain champion until the two of us decide it's over. There's a new dynamic in this company. UWA, BWF, whatever you want to call it. We are THE Power Couple now, and no two-bit tattooed nobodies are going to change that.
Gabe slaps Will on the shoulder hard and smirks before heading into the open door in the back of the limousine. Stutterfly adjusts the title on her shoulder, glares at Will, and leans in, grinning.
Stutterfly: Any questions?
Before he can answer, Stutterfly playfully slaps Will on the cheek twice and slides into the limo next to Gabe. The door shuts and the sound of champagne popping can be heard from inside the vehicle as it drives towards the exit of the arena. Will watches them go and shrugs in the direction of the camera as the scene fades back to the ring.
The Highlights...
- The story going into this match was one for the ages; two company veterans hungry for a return to BWF glory versus a dominant champion of the new era. As the match got underway, both AJ and Akemi were wary, waiting to make their first move, while Enforcer was determined to plant both of these 'stars' in the ground with his brute strength.
- Unlike in previous matches where enemies worked together briefly, AJ and Akemi made it clear they had no interest in assisting one another, even as Enforcer worked on taking them out one by one, instead opting to pick their moments and try to score a quick, decisive win, leading to them taking potshots at the champion, which only served to anger him further.
- One of the biggest reactions from the crowd came when Akemi grabbed AJ and hit him with his own Break Stuff (Stunner)! She covered, but Enforcer pulled her off of AJ and... Akemi kicked him hard in the knee before dropping the champ with HIS own Death Penalty (DDT)! Another cover, but a recovered AJ broke up the pin, picked up Akemi... and hit her with HER own Starflower (Twist of Fate)! He covered, Akemi kicked out, and the crowd chanted "This is awesome!"
The Finish...
As the match neared its end, Enforcer was in full control of the contest, focusing his efforts on the smaller of his two opponents, Akemi. The former Dagger continued to fight back, but seemingly every hit she got on Enforcer was met with a rebuke that was twice as powerful. In a last ditch effort to gain some breathing room, Akemi made her way to the ropes, slid between them, and grappled Enforcer, using his own momentum to topple him out of the ring and to the outside. Akemi re-entered the ring, but didn't notice AJ Adams just out of view, ready to strike. Before she could even turn around, AJ grabbed Akemi, executed the Legacy Maker (Sister Abigail) and covered. By the time Enforcer made it to his feet and noticed what was happening, the referee was already calling for the bell.
WINNER AND NEW BWF INTERNATIONAL CHAMPION: AJ Adams, via Pinfall
"Lights Out" by P.O.D. blared over the sound system as AJ sat up in the ring, grinning. Enforcer couldn't believe it; he flipped out and started yelling, eventually throwing the steel steps in anger even as AJ celebrated in the ring with the International Title.
Liam Stewart: Adams did it?! What!? I mean, I know he's a former BWF World Champ and all, but DAMN! I thought Enforcer had this match won for sure!
Alison James: I, too, have to admit that I foresaw Enforcer leaving Finish Line with the International Title. No slight against AJ or Akemi, of course. I guess AJ Adams showed just why he has been so dominant in BWF in the past!
Liam Stewart: I gotta say, I don't envy the first person Enforcer runs into backstage. Or the fiftieth. Dude's gonna be pissed for a while.
Coming Soon on Pay-Per-View
The Highlights...
- Early on in the match, FM focused on Nessa's still healing wounds from her nasty Street Fight versus Super Tiger from Havok. The Champion came hard early, keeping the challenger rocked with tough blows and lightning-quick reflexes.
- Nessa exited the ring to catch her breath and FM followed; Nessa lured her in and let FM kick a corner ring pole aiming for the challenger, gimping her long enough for Nessa to mount a quick flurry of offense. Despite doing damage, this also angered Young, who doubled her efforts in inflicting pain on Nessa.
- The turning point of the match came when Nessa hit FM with the Truth Hurts (Running Enzuigiri to the chest of a dazed/seated opponent), catching her with the tip of her boot right between the eyes. FM fell back and smacked her head hard against the ring mat. The combination of the two seemingly concussed the World Champion, leaving her dazed and confused even as Nessa grew more determined by the moment.
The Finish...
Since taking Nessa's Truth Hurts, FM had been struggling to stay upright, much less form any sort of offense against the challenger. Still, FM's warrior heart shone through, as she refused to give up even with the referee (and a few ringside EMTs) checked on her. As the referee declared the match officially continued, Nessa wasted no time catching FM between the eyes with a second Truth Hurts, followed immediately by the Application Denied (Beautiful Disaster Kick). With FM struggling to even stand at this point, it was a foregone conclusion as Nessa leaned down, blew FM a kiss, and went for the - NO! From outta NOWHERE, perhaps on pure adrenaline, FM grabbed a charging Nessa, slid behind her and applied a Tazzmission-style chokehold! The crowd popped, but their elation was short lived, as Nessa flipped FM over her shoulder, ran the ropes, and caught FM on the return with the Kissy, Kissy (Blown Kiss into a Boma Ye)! Nessa covered FM... 1... 2... 3!!! We have a new BWF World Champion!
WINNER AND NEW BWF WORLD CHAMPION: Nessa Wall, via Pinfall
"She's a Genius" by Jet hit the BlazenTron as Nessa sat up, covering her mouth in near-surprise as the reality of the moment sunk in. Tears began to flow (as did the boos) as the referee handed Nessa the BWF World Title. She ignored the boos, closing her eyes and holding the title close as her music continued to play.
Alison James: I don't believe it. Nessa Wall is the BWF World Champion! That feels absolutely surreal to say out loud.
Liam Stewart: I'm shocked she beat FM Young so dominantly. It looked like FM might have gotten legitimately hurt at one point; there's no doubt that played into the result of the match.
Alison James: I certainly hope she's not too badly wounded... FM has an Empire Wrestling World Title defense 24 hours from now!
Liam Stewart: Well, now she can focus on Empire's belt, because she doesn't have the BWF one anymore! Haha.
Alison James: I mean, she JUST lost the title. Show some respect.
Liam Stewart: You know who I respect? Our NEW BWF World Champion, Nessa Wall! The woman to lead our fine company into a new era of prosperity!
Alison James: She absolutely is. Her legacy was cemented tonight at Finish Line, but she has the chance to forge an all-new one when UWA-BWF Legacy goes on the air for its very first episode in just two weeks!
Liam Stewart: I can't wait! The Happenstance Tournament kicks off... it's super exciting!
Alison James: Indeed it is! That's all for us here tonight; for Liam Stewart, I'm Alison James... good night from BWF Finish Line! We'll see you soon... in the UWA-BWF!
We see one final shot of Nessa Wall celebrating with her newly-won BWF World Championship before the scene fades to the BWF logo, and then finally to black.
