We are in the Maverick Compound.
A warehouse in an undisclosed location somewhere in New York state. A facility where Johnny Maverick trains future generations but also where he trains himself. Also the residence of several of the Hoodie Ninjas. The centerpiece of the training area is a worn out boxing ring that is murder to get slammed on but all around it are weight benches and machines, racks of plates of worn out old weights, a few punching bags. No treadmills, instead there are line markers around the interior perimeter of the entire area denoting distance. The camera approaches Johnny Maverick, seated on one of the benches and covered in sweat, wearing a 'Guardians' shirt.
Johnny Maverick: Well it seems I have exactly what I want to have right now. I know I still have a ladder to climb but after TWO matches my name has crossed the lips of Casey Grey on television which means I have something very very important. I have the Champion's attention.
Johnny starts to remove the wraps on his hands. We get a few interspersed shots of him throwing knees, elbows, punches, and kicks at a heavy bag.
Johnny Maverick: So allow me to reintroduce myself. I've had a run or two in both of Empire's incarnations but they were....unfocused at best but something has changed. In the past year I have come close to reaching the top of two separate wrestling companies only to be informed that those companies would be closing down. As of the recording of this video I am still due a shot at the BWF World Championship on their final show and I fully intend to win that belt but the fact remains that after I win that title... that's it. It's done. So when the offer came to join Empire I have to admit that the prospect of starting all over has made me... frustrated. I guess 'Frustrated' is an okay word to describe it.
Johnny tosses his hand wraps aside, this time with interspersed shots of him tossing around and suplexing a weighted jiu-jitsu grappling dummy in the ring, the slams echoing throughout the building.
Johnny Maverick: What am I here to do? Not to fuck around, I'll tell you that much. You can tell me that I'll be used as a mercenary all you want, Casey. The beginning and the end of it is that I am here to fight the best and logic dictates that whoever has the biggest shiniest belt matches that description. If my eventually beating you for that championship happens to align with the goals of someone else...I fail to see what that has to do with me. I'm not interested in taking shortcuts if they are offered to me. I don't need them. I don't need them because I am the best fucking fighter alive. That Championship you had was held by my father for a YEAR.
This time we get an interspersed shot of Johnny sparring with Daniel Daemon, tying up with him in the middle of the run down boxing ring before we cut back to Johnny on the wight bench.
Johnny Maverick: I bet I can do better. I am betting EVERYTHING on myself and it's a bet I feel safe making. You know who shouldn't feel safe? Anyone on this roster. I will tear through you all and keep walking and if you have any issues with my confidence? You have an open invitation to prove me wrong. We can do it in Empire. We can do it here at the Maverick Compound. Either way, you're gonna get tossed and you're gonna tap.
We see a shot of Johnny, exhausted as he leans his head against the heavy bag for a few fleeting moments before he starts striking again.
Johnny Maverick: I never give up. I never surrender. I never relent. Old catchphrase. Doesn't make it any less true.
